For upcoming recognitions in August –
The American Lung Association recognizes August 1st as World Lung Cancer Day. As someone who has a family member currently suffering from Lung Cancer, we recognize this day to spread awareness and to educate people on the signs of Lung Cancer. While some cases are hereditary, others can be caused by lifestyle decisions such as smoking or working in areas without breathing masks.

The CDC recognizes August 31st as International Overdose Awareness Day. Many loved ones have passed due to addiction, and this has long-lasting effects in our lives which may also lead to our own addiction as a way of coping. Overdoses are the leading injury-related cause of death in the United States with nearly 76% involving opioids in 2022. This day is a day to remember and grieve those we have lost and to take action by encouraging support and recovery.
